Ds Vs Terry Barber

In the whirlwind of fashion week, we caught up with M.A.C ‘s jet-setting UK Director of Makeup Artistry – industry legend Terry Barber!

Having worked on the most famous of celeb icons from Grace Jones, Pamela Anderson to Dita Von Teese & Beyonce, his deft hand was behind this season’s key looks on the runway.

Here, he answers some pressing questions from DS – read them and put your best face forward this winter.

Are Sydney girls wearing too much makeup?
While it’s easy to say yes from the heavy painterly faces of the fashion crowd, Terry loves the natural ” I didn’t drink myself silly” look of a well rested face. In all instances, resist the urge to cake it on ladies. “Sydney girls seem to like well conditioned skin with a glow – transparent skin is modern skin!”

What’s something new we can experiment with at home?
“I really enjoyed the make up that Nicole Thompson created at the Kirrilly Johnston show.  It was a new use of hot, spicy neutrals – a terracotta wash around the eyes and a full paprika toned lip and everything done with a gorgeous creamy texture. This look was all about brown being sexy again”.

Tell us the truth, are false lashes too much for the office?
“No they should be trimmed to the eye, not too theatrical but a very 60′s inspired chunky black lash against a nude polished face – this is one of the hot new trends.  Lose the eyeshadow in favor of a major lash – think Julie Christie in the 60′s”. Visualise Adele’s latest video clip and go for it!

And remember Sydney ladies, the BACK-TO M.A.C recycling campaign is still going strong!
