No Harbourlife For 2011

Harbourlife, the annual bro's day out of Sydney summer which has played host to Temper Trap, Felix da Housecat, Feadz and many more, is moving to 2012... so no Harbourlife in 2011.According to Fuzzy Creative Director John Wall, Harbourlife is under pressure from other events nearby, which have proven impossible to resolve.Via InTheMix: 'A clash with a private event nearby has proven impossible to resolve so both events could go ahead, so we've opted to move Harbourlife to a time of year when we don't have any other events on. More info will be available once the new date and details are confirmed'While the backside slowly falls out of the festival market, is this a genuine scheduling issue or another sign of difficult times ahead for festival promoters? More pointedly, do you care if this event is on or not?xDS

Trout Mask Replica – Replica @ Kind Of

The surreal experimental sounds of the muscial genius Don Van Vliet AKA Captain Beefheart, and his Magic Band have been brought to colourful life through the paintings and drawings by Aoife Milson in her exhibition Trout Mask Replica - Replica opening at Kind Of Gallery this Thursday night.Listening soley to the music of Beefheart while she worked, and titled in homage to his epic album 'Trout Mask Replica', Milson's artworks encapsulate the inspirational conversation between two creatives. She has visualised the fusion of jazz, blues and psychedelia of Beefheart's music through weird and compelling images in 'a reaction to Beefheart in all his Glory' - like this... The exhibition delivers a very personal insight into the relationship between two artists and how two mediums can become indelibly linked as one inspires the other. A rare experience not to be missed.Check out Beefheart and his Magic Band live at Cannes in 1968 here. What: Trout Mask Replica - ReplicaWhere: Kind Of Gallery, 72 Oxford Street, DarlinghurstWhen: Opening Night - Thursday 25 October 7pm - 9pm Exhibition runs 25 Oct - 6 Nov (Thurs - Sun 12-6pm)Link: http://kindofgallery.com/Liz de Fegely: liz_defegely@hotmail.com

Food Festivals This Weekend

This Sunday is shaping up to be fan-bloody-tastic for fans of the street festival. The suburbs of Strathfield and Marrickville will burst at the seams with food stalls, live music, art, theatre and that delicious thing we call multiculturalism, which we have to thank for all the incredible eats that are housed in these 'burbs. Marrickville is a great starting spot. The Marrickville Festival draws around 50,000 people each year and is the best showcase of this suburb's cultural diversity, while the Strathfield Food Festival, run as part of the Crave Sydney Food Festival, is an Asian fusion amusement park of food. Live cooking demonstrations by Seoul of Sydney Korean chefs, local restaurants cooking up a storm and beer and wine tastings will be rampant.
