Bowl-A-Rama Rundown

One of the prettier extreme sports to watch, bowl riding is a sick way / the only way to utilise an empty swimming pool. In February, a bunch of professional maniacs dressed like 15 year olds will descend upon Bondi's famous bowl  for a full week of drinking. While nursing a particulary bad hangover on the Sunday, these athletes will compete for the best bowl riding prize in the history of Sydney's Eastern Suburbs™. Officially sanctioned by the World Cup Skateboarding, Vans Bowl-A-Rama Bondi celebrates the culture of skateboarding by offering a week of events in the lead up to the competition on the Saturday. It's all open to public and free, check out the full list of activities below. Note that if venturing to Bondi bowl for this event, please respect tradition: wear a felt hat and beard. Pure Pops

Up until recently, I though Frosty Fruits were the shiz. Fruity and refreshing. But you know what? I didn't even know what a good icy pole was. My whole history of icy pole consumption was a farce, You know why? Because along came Pure Pops.Pure Pops is the lickable fantasy of Australian Gourmet Traveller's Assistant Food Editor, Alice Storey, and catering whiz, Georgina Larby, come to life. They've got a retro little ice cream cart, an umbrella, huge smiles and a freezer full of icy treats that will make you forget the Frosty Fruit ever existed. Ain't that the life. The girls are huge fans of Gelato Messina's crazy take on ice cream and "wanted to produce something a little different by putting a new spin on a childhood classic." They're wheeling their cart around the market circuit and the pops are selling as fast as bottled water before a hurricane. Behold their current range of all-natural, hand-crafted flavours for $3.50 a pop:blood orange and Camparicoconut, pineapple and passionfruitbanana caramel (our favourite!)pink grapefruit and elderflowerstrawberry and vanilla yogurt swirlvanilla malt shakeI know. Amazing. They'll even customize a flavour for an event if you ask them nicely. The flavours are fresh and seasonal and as pretty as the Pure Pops girls themselves, and will change as the months go by. Keep a close eye on their facebook, twitter and their blog to find out where they are headed next (this Saturday it's the Bondi farmers market!)Contact Pure Pops at eatpurepops@gmail.comSophie McComaswww.twitter.com/sophmccomas

Speedo Aquabumps Fashion Parade

Summer is coming to Bondi this weekend. Fashionably speaking, that is. There won’t be sun (according to those darn Bureau of Meteorology kids) but there will be bikinis, fake tans, six-packs and sunsets galore at the Speedo Fashion Parade. It’s all going down at the Bondi Sunburn Store. You can hang out with former Miss Universe Australia, Rachael Finch and the guy that made photography a hipster sport, Aquabumps legend Eugene Tan. They'll be there signing autographs (on paper, not bare chests, people!) and having their photos taken with fans. Meanwhile, models will be swanning about in Speedo's latest Spring/Summer swimwear. If you're bored on a rainy Saturday, this could be the ultimate pick-me-up.Speedo Aquabumps Fashion ParadeBondi Beach Sunburn, 178 Campbell ParadeSaturday 10th September, 201112 - 2pm Leesa Hamiltonleesa.hamilton@gmail.com

Sydney Winter Festivals

Now here's something to tell the Grandkids, in my day they let you ice skate on Bondi Beach! I bet they wont believe you when you tell them. From June 30 - July 17, bikinis will be replaced by beanies and thongs will make room for ice skates when the Bondi Bergstation arrives in town, transforming the iconic waterfront into a toasty Apres-ski village complete with beer hall, free steaming Lipton chai tea, mulled wine and fine German sausage to keep your skating-energy at a peak.If you're not iced-out after that, Cathedral Square in front of St Mary's Cathedral in the CBD will be home to a whopping 1,200m2 rink from July 28 - August 14. An Alpine Hut will be set up so you can watch people slip and slide on the ice from the safety of a fire-side couch whilst snacking on Alpine snacks from around the globe. Bonus awesome-points go to those who bring ear-muffs, the skating accessory of Kings.Sydney Winter Festivals:Bondi: June 30 - July 17 (Friday, Saturday & Sundays) Bondi Beach, buy tickets to ice skate here (selling fast)St Mary's Cathedral: July 28 - August 14 (Friday, Saturday & Sundays), Cathedral Square, CBD. Aesop @ Bondi Beach

With the limitless supply of information about beautifully packaged, organic, vitamin-filled, celebrity endorsed skin and beauty ranges that we’re constantly bombarded with, it can get so confusing on what is seriously a legit brand and what is just, well crap.Aesop is one brand that you can not go wrong with. I’m obsessed with their products but more importantly the energy that they put into the environment you are surrounded with when you commit to buy. Aesop concept stores are reknown and celebrated globally. They are designed from the outside, in, with the local area in mind. Which means that no two are the same and each one is reflective of the culture, people and environment around it.Lucky Sydney gets to officially welcome store number 5 tonight – with Aesop Bondi Beach opening their doors to the beautiful public. Tucked away from the summer-fuelled crowds and rowdy backpacker types the store – designed by Zenta Tankaka – contains an incredible selection of natural materials which echo the landscape around it, producing a sense of relaxed character and calmness to the store space.I strongly suggest that you check out the mature wood, marble and textural elements, while snapping up any of their range of skin, hair and body care. You will never look back.Aesop at Bondi BeachShop 9, Beach House178 Campbell Parade, Bondi BeachP: +61 2 9130 2433E: bondibeach@aesop.comLee-Lee Hops
